Hello Fairview !
I begin writing these thoughts in the first hour of this early Thursday morning from the Franciscan Renewal center where your moderator, John Schuster, and I have been the last day and a half at a seminar on “Re-Thinking Board Leadership.” It has been a packed 36 hours or so and we’ve got another half dozen ours of conference time left. I think I can speak for both John and myself in saying that this has been a real eye opening experience. We are learning to discern where and how our form of leadership fits within the spectrum of church boards and how we can improve the way we function as a church to be more efficient, to make leaders feel more empowered, to set time aside for visioning and implementing future plans. We are excited to learn and dream about how our church can take steps to place us in the perfect position for growth –spiritual, communal, and yes –numerical.
We’ll be flying home this afternoon just in time for me to make it back to choir rehearsal –I hope you’ll consider joining me at 6:30pm as I learn from our talented Music Director, Sean Burns. I like to sing, but I am not a singer. What I like about Sean is that he echoes our saying “It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey –you’re welcome here!” –essentially if you’re the best singer in the OC or you’re just learning to find your voice –there’s a place for you in our budding choir! Hope to see you this evening!
It’s a busy week here at Fairview . Coming up on Saturday is the first movie in our Faith and Film in the Secular World brought to us by our Adult Christian Education Commission entitled, “Peaceful Warrior.” I have not yet seen this film, but I’ve heard others give it great reviews, so I’m definitely looking forward to viewing it. Looking for a cheap date night, or just something to do? Well –this is free! So join us!
On Sunday we’ll be celebrating a day we affectionately call Love Sunday. It’s a day where we sing a lot of secular songs that might be familiar to you on the radio –but you would almost never hear in church. If you’re a Beatles fan –come on out –because this year we’re singing some of your favorites! There will be a Love Feast following the service –so please consider bringing a dish to share. It’ll be a fun day to be in church!
Scroll down the announcements –because there are a lot this week! See you soon!
Busy and joyful,
Sarah
